Lost my way

Just lately I've lost my way in the body of work module but I hope I'm back on track now.
Whist my tutor doesn't think the piece of work I've suggested I think I can run with it and produce a good number of relevant images.

I've been thinking over suggestions and ideas how to illustrate each section of the poem and think that most sections I'll be able to illustrate them sufficiently.

What I also need to find is a hook to link them all together.  I was thinking of having all images in black and white or desaturated in a moody way.  I was thinking of a then and now theme but that might be too difficult to portray.

I mean to go through the poem line by line writing out my ideas and analysing what I would need to enable me to come up with relevant pictures.  I know that I will need to go back again and again as I develop my ideas on each theme and I'm looking forward to the challenge.  The main problem is finding models and props to fit in with my ideas.

I have yet to make contact with Wendy McMurdo who is my tutor for Contextual Studies.  I wasn't sure whether I was supposed to contact her or she would contact me.  Clive got in touch with me first so I assumed Wendy would do the same.  I shall email her immediately.

My images will use, as a start point, the areas described in this poem but hopefully expand to encompass my own experimental areas.

Hi Clive

Sorry to be so long in replying to your email but I have firstly been away and secondly been thinking about what you said above.

I think this subject has a much wider vision than you give it and want to explore the wider context rather than limit it to such a confined area.

It might also be easier if I load more of my images to my g:drive so that you can see how wide it can go.  I'll let you know when there are more images to check out.

I’ve been looking at the blog. Have you got more than those 4?

I think we need quite a lot more to play with before we do the Hangout, maybe try some other themes too. Although I think there is potential in the Waiting theme but it needs to be more specific.

When I first read Waiting, with you coming from a holiday area, my first thought was people waiting on tables. Both the staff and people waiting to be seated or served.

You need something that has conceptual legs. I think Waiting in that sense could have it, with so many of the staff coming from Europe and now gradually disappearing. You need to be able to tie in the BoW with your Contextual Studies writing so that aspect of Waiting has the potential for it.

I've been out taking images and find already that I'm specialising in one subject area that I'd like to concentrate on, that of 'Waiting'  I had a couple of other subjects to think about but found this one has really caught my imagination.

Submit images

I've had an email from my tutor Clive asking me how I'm getting on with work for my first assignment and could I show him how I'm progressing.

I must admit that I've tended to focus on one of my suggested titles, that of 'Waiting'.  It already seems to have a much wider range of pictures available to photograph than the other subjects I started with.

The only thing I need to know now is how Clive would like me to submit my pictures.  Would he like a memory stick, should I use software like WeTransfer or Dropbox or should I start to use the g drive that I was in ignorance when it came to submitting my work for moderation for Gesture & Meaning?

From the posts I've read on the OCA Level 3 Facebook page, I get the impression that it'll be by using the g drive.  I always have trouble finding it so have made a bookmark to go directly to it.

One thing that annoys me with Google when you have multiple accounts is that you cannot be signed into more than one area at a time.  I have the OCA student account and also a personal account.  Somehow my Blogger account is linked to my OCA student account so I must be logged into that before I can access my blogs on a laptop or iMac.

If I'm on my iphone or ipad I can switch directly between the two accounts with no problem, it allows me to be signed into both at the same time. Crazy!

Keep thinking

I must admit that I'm drawn to the subject of 'waiting' even though I am supposed to engage in 3 subjects to get my best take on one.
Every where I look I see things that could be used in the 'waiting' portfolio and I'm watching various scenarios to get a best image rather than the basic pose that I could take so easily.  I think I should jump right in and take images rather than thinking too hard at the moment.

I've sorted out a timetable for the two modules as I must have a deadline to work to.  If I don't then I just amble along hoping to get to the finish line but with no structure.  I've done a screen dump using Excel to lay it out.











I know it's difficult to see much detail but it gives me a timescale to work to.  As I said before, essential if I'm to get through this.
